Garage Door Parts General Information
Most garage doors share many of common parts like rollers, hinges, springs, locks,
weather seals, cables, track and various brackets. Basic maintenance like lubrication, balance,
tightening nuts and bolts, and visual inspection is easy and necessary.
Residential garage doors come in a few basic designs. Sectional doors which are the most common
include torsion springs or extension springs. Most "Do-It-Yourselfers" can easily understand and repair
extension spring doors. Torsion spring doors can be a lot more difficult to work on.
Most of the other parts on torsion spring doors can still be maintained easily like hinges, rollers,
locks and weather seals but springs, bottom fixtures and cables should be left to the experienced professionals.
